Abstract
This study investigated 290 Solution Focused Brief Therapy cases conducted in a family therapy center in Seoul between January, 1999 and February, 2009. The researchers coded 1) client characteristics and presenting problems, 2) the therapist¡¯s intervention techniques, and 3) follow-up information for 20 of the cases. Clients most often requested help with marital problems however, they also sought assistance for individual behavior problems, mother-daughter conflicts, and tensions with in-laws. Therapists most commonly employed scaling questions, and they suggested tasks related to the clients¡¯ thoughts. Therapy durations ranged between 1 and 12 sessions, with an average of 2.3. Of the 20 clients contacted for follow-up information, 16 reported that they were "doing fine." These 16 credited themselves for their efforts for change, and they expressed their trust of their therapists, who, they said, were effective with their active listening, empathy, questions, and tasks. The authors conclude that their research appears to have answered many questions and doubts about Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
